STEWARDING FINANCES

STEWARDING FINANCES

“If we command our wealth, we shall be rich and free. If our wealth commands us, we are poor indeed.”
– Edmund Burke

Money. It’s one of the issues you will undoubtedly have to discuss and agree upon before and during your marriage. Why? Because money is needed to run your home effectively.

Money is one thing that is supposed to serve us but seeks to rule over us. If we’re not careful, the pursuit of money will completely occupy our minds. Since “the two shall become one,” you must also be of one mind regarding your money. You must decide early what position money will occupy in your hearts—servant or master. Whatever you decide will affect how you prioritize your values and whether or not you make wise financial decisions.

Money may not always bring you happiness or satisfaction. It can actually bring you disagreements in marriage. To prevent unnecessary tension in marriage there must be a proper understanding of the place of money.

Know this: money in itself is not bad. It is simply a means of exchange for necessary goods and services. Since money is a major influence in our lives, we must understand how to relate with it both as individuals and as couples so that it doesn’t control us.
In the next few days, you will learn the place of money in your marriage. At the end of this week, you’ll be able to answer basic questions on issues relating to family finances.
