WHAT IS MARRIAGE?

“Marriage: a souvenir of love.”
– Helen Rowland

Marriage. As simple as this eight-letter word sounds, you’d be surprised that only a few people really understand what it means. Even among couples, who have some knowledge about the subject, it is not uncommon to discover one or two flaws in the definition they have built over the years.

Have you ever wondered if a subject as broad as marriage can truly have one, simple definition? Is the search for a proper definition a worthy quest or just a waste of time?

We will be discussing these questions and more in the next five days.

The goal is that by the end of this week, you would not only have refreshed your previous knowledge but also have learnt a few new things about the subject of marriage.

Let’s begin with a simple definition: marriage is a union. It is the coming together of a man and a woman for the purpose of building a home. It involves making verbal and/or written statements in the presence of witnesses. Marriage is the exchange of vows expressing the unconditional commitment to love one another.
