Overview

In most nations of the world, it takes about 6 to 7 years to become a medical doctor, lawyer, engineer and so on. How many hours have you spent to study marriage? Marriage is perhaps more complex than these subjects yet most of us have not taken adequate time to learn about how it works.

In this course, I’ll be helping married couples review, renew and upgrade their marriages through practical insights that I have successfully used to help thousands of couples rebuild their marriages – some from the precipice of total collapse.

This course is for everyone who desires a better marriage. Through this course you will gain fresh perspectives with which you can regain control of the destiny of your marriage and drive it to a happier place.

Completing this course will help you:

Who is the course for?

This course is for couples who have been married for over a year. Younger couples can participate in the course if they choose to; however, older couples will enjoy the benefit of having experiences to review as they reflect on the learnings in the course.

Learning Path

This first module provides an opportunity for self-discovery using psychometric assessments. It includes an opportunity to reflect on yourself and to discuss the results with your spouse. This way, you both gain deeper levels of awareness of each other.

Good communication in marriage doesn’t just happen. You must make up your mind to put in the work required to have the kind of marriage people will wonder about. In this module, you will learn about some hindrances to effective communication in a marriage relationship.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Secrets, Constant Criticism, Accountability, Stonewalling, Dealing with Contempt.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on Communication.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

For a marriage to reach its full potential, you cannot afford to grow separately. You must put down joint roots, sprout one stem and then produce many fruitful branches. In this module, you will consider certain principles that help couples grow together and not apart.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Friendship, Loving Submission, Foundations, Apologies, ‘Thinking about me’.

Audio: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Building Friendship in Marriage’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

Everything God made was good, including sex. If you are not having great sex with your spouse, then it is something to talk about and pray about – yes, you can pray about sex! In this module, you will explore hindrances to great sex in a marriage relationship.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Drive, Pleasure or Pain, Crucial conversations, Reigniting the fire.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Sex without boundaries’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

We expect adults to know how to manage their emotions and to be led by more than the emotions of the moment. Emotional intelligence or acumen doesn’t come naturally. It must be developed. The need for growth becomes even more apparent in marriage where it seems that there are several reasons just to lose your cool. In this module, you will take an internal audit of your emotional maturity.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Controlling Anger, Growing up emotionally, Selective Amnesia, Sensitivity to your spouse.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Bonding without pain’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

It’s no news that men and women are different; people have mulled over and philosophized about our differences for centuries. It’s also old news that we each have weaknesses that we bring into marriage. The question is: Do you work on your weakness or is it the cross your spouse now has to bear? In this module, you will learn how to appreciate your differences and how to love your spouse just as they are.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Trading places, Accepting differences, Reconciling differences, Loving your spouse.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Changing your spouse’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

In laying a good foundation, you consider every conceivable mishap that can threaten the integrity of the building you intend to erect. If you do a good job, to your credit, your building will withstand the toughest storms. A marriage that will stand firm when storms rage, needs a stellar foundation. In this module, we will look at a few of the storms that will attempt to shake the integrity of your marriage and how you can withstand them.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Handling Storms, Together Forever, Keeping Love Alive, Chilling versus Thrilling.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Recipe for Bliss’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

The challenge with human beings is that we love to test boundaries. We like to live life on the edge. We often think we can get away being on the threshold of dangerous behaviour because we consider ourselves to be smarter than those who tried it earlier and failed. In this module, you will get help to deal with hubris and build up guardrails in your marriage.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Dealing with Exes, Picket fences and Brick walls, Fighting Fair, Flirting.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘Friendly Exes’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

In marriage, I have found out the hard way that monogamy does not mean the inclusion of spouse to the exclusion of everybody else. Several factors will attempt to weigh in on your marriage. I like to call some of these external forces, militants. As we wrap up this adventure, I have picked the top five external influences that I believe can affect a marriage, be it negatively or positively.

Topics (read or listen to an audio recording): Authority Figures, In-laws, Friends, Money, Baggage.

Videos: Listen to a message or a talk show on ‘In-law wahala’.

Assessment: Complete an end-of-module quiz.

This is a final, reflective quiz which is required for the successful completion of this course.
